Journal entry by Ashley Sider — Sep 20, 2019

Monday morning this past week our sweet Colton James started his chemotherapy treatment. His treatment will be given from 1-2pm daily for the next four weeks. His belly has ached quit a bit in the afternoon as a result of the medicine but we are constantly amazed at how brave he is. Because Colton is in the small population of infants with Leukemia he is considered a “high risk” patient and the cancer cells in his body are very aggressive- requiring his treatment to be very aggressive as well. The hope after these next four weeks is that Colton would be in remission (no more cancer cells found in his body) and we would get to venture home for a few days before coming back for another 6 weeks of treatments. A highlight from this week was that Colton got to take an actual bath!  It’s been 2 weeks since he was able to play in water so that was a real treat! The past few days have been challenging for Jason and Morgan as they have seen Coltons mood switch and his energy levels low, please continue to pray for a peace that goes beyond understanding for their family as they continue to battle.  It never gets easier to see your baby not feeling well, so we’re asking God, everyday, to give the Dietrich’s glimpses of hope and a “peek behind the curtain” of what God’s doing”.  Although we deeply believe it, sometimes we need visible reminders that He is in control.

We’re also so so thankful for those who have continued to give to the fundraiser for the Dietrich’s!  In 5 days you all have helped raised almost $10,000!  That’s about halfway to the goal and we are just so thankful!  Please continue to share and give as you can.  You all are the BEST support team and we’re grateful to have you standing with us through this journey.

This week we rejoiced over the fact that Colton pooped 7 times in 12 hours after taking medicine that was supposed to make him constipated (overachiever). A prayer request for this week is that Colton would have no side effects to his treatment, that his body would be strong enough to tolerate the medicine he is receiving and that we would see a miracle in him- for full restoration of his body inside out.
